Just where would you like our disabled to go?

Remember the story from a couple years ago about the autistic kid who got the cops called on him for EWB in front of a public library? –Existing While Black.
Some twatrocket found a black person at a library a little more than her small pea brain could handle, add to that he was acting “weird”. She called the cops.

Ah yes! EWB&A. Fuck.
The cops showed up. This young man (19-20 at the time), has an IQ of 69.  He has autism. He was confused. He hadn’t done anything wrong. He fought back against the cops. They gave him a beat down… and he’s been in jail ever since. I had no idea.

Jail is no place for someone with autism and an IQ of 69.
He’s spent most of his time in solitary.

I cannot go back to facebook and find the link for you. I refuse to even google. Not now. Not today. My news feed is full of stories that make me want to go postal.

Friends who made the impossible decision to put their child in a facility outside the home… only to be told no one wants to pay for it now.

Friends still looking for a facility to put their kid in… but wait lists are long, homes and hospitals are full.

Acquaintances whose child was moved out of a proper facility to save the state money, into inadequate care, and now THAT child is in jail.

These are kids who cannot be in the home. They can’t be in jail either.

While some of you sit around telling me that autism is a gift and a blessing and helps you to write better! Or helps you to figure out complicated science. Or helps you draw nice pictures. Or makes you millions from your comedy and TV shows (FUJS). Or is a beautiful gift from God, b/c God won’t give you more than you can handle…
While you are all doing that giant circle jerk of fucking ignorance…

Kids with REAL autism are suffering.
In prison. In their own homes.
Because they can’t see it and it isn’t their problem.

Where is the Autism Self Advocacy group on these issues?
Where is Ari N’can’tstoptouchingmyself long enough to give a fuck on this issue?
Those useless, no… harmful, fuckers don’t want to admit that autism ain’t fucking AWEsome for the vast majority.

Here in Florida and new scholarship was begun for kids with specific special needs, whose parents chose to homeschool. Gavin “got” $10K –well… he didn’t get it yet, it’s still tied up. I’ll be able to get him curriculum and assistive  tech with that money that *I* chose for him –because parents know best and schools are lacking.
This is the first year for this program and already people are crying and screaming out to end it. I guess “it’s not fair”. Yeah. Fuck my kid.
Most of the people bitching are republicans who support school vouchers… Um.. OK… So… better education for their kids, but not poor kids and not disabled kids.

I’m starting to think that most of you would like Hitler to come back from the grave (or South America if the rumors are true) and fire up the ovens. Either actively, or passively by your ignorance and apathy.
Why are so many of you OK with treating the poor and disabled worse than dogs?

No funny pictures today. No music video ending. I’m too pissed off.

But Hey, at least he never got measles.

“But Hey, at least he never got measles.”
That’s my favorite snarky line of shit that I love to tack on the end of every post I put on facebook describing the insanity that is life with autism.

Let my cousin Robert illustrate my feelings.

Let my cousin Robert illustrate my feelings.

Trust me, I much rather he’d gotten measles.

Fifteen years ago I met a group of parents like me, mostly youngins ourselves with little autistic people who we were trying to figure out. We’d share the little things like, “Gavin used ASL to sign ‘more’ today!” And we’d all be so excited! Messages would fly back and forth… “Did you hear it might be vaccines?” “Have you heard of the GFCF diet?”

We were figuring it out.

The sad thing is, I still see those comments from new parents.
The sadder thing is, I still see parents with kids who are now adults, posting, “He just signed ‘more’!!”
The saddest thing is, I am seeing way too may of us posting about things you ‘normals’ cannot imagine…

Violence, aggression, rage, constant seizures, no money, no insurance coverage for what our kids need, parents throwing their kids off bridges, stabbing them, gassing them… Useless spouses.  Lack of family and friend support.  Lack of services. Lack of adequate medical care. Not much has changed and it’s only getting worse and most of you don’t even have a clue.

It’s mind numbing.
Things with my own child reached a level where I decided that I was going to have to medicate him, at least for now, until we figured something else out. (Oh, I probably wouldn’t have to medicate him if I had the money to get him what he really needs, but I don’t. And I’m trying… but my hands are tied. There is no one or no where to send him so that I can work. It’s a vicious cycle.) I am still waiting, two months later, trying to find a doctor to see him who will manage medication.

Then you have Jerry Seinfeld “coming out” as autistic.

Yep. He thinks he is on the spectrum.
I was writing a nasty blog in my head about it for days, but so many of you did a fine job at telling Jerry to “GFY” that I don’t really need to. I will link to those, but I do have one thing to add…
The cluster fuck that is the ND crowd are the ones who used the terminology “coming out” and “closeted autistic”.
And for those of you confused on the meaning of “spectrum” –the word was used to define the range of children WHO MEET ALL OF THE DIAGNOSTIC CRITERIA, yet vary in severity. If you have ONE of the criteria, like maybe you’re a little socially awkward, that doesn’t put you on the autism spectrum…. that MEANS that you are a little fucking socially awkward.

This: no Jerry, you don’t have autism.

And This: Screw you, Jerry (Seinfeld, “Autistic?”)

And This: Jerry Seinfeld’s Not helping…

I was looking for video clips to compare Jerry to someone who really has autism and stumbled upon this clip that 1. was not funny at all, not even a chuckle… and 2. offensive –as he calls a mail truck a “mentally handicapped jeep”. WTF? I’m not even sure what joke he was going for with that.   You can watch it here. It’s painful.

Real autism?
Alison’s mom can’t get her inside easily when they get out of a car. This is a safety issue. Imagine when she’s 20. I recently met a guy whose mom had to put his sister in a home b/c mom blew out her back lifting her, now adult, daughter. Same fate for this mom, I’m certain.

This lady’s home is destroyed.  Mine’s not this bad… yet.

This family fought and fought to get nursing care in the home. Only to catch one of them abusing their son.

This is my friend whose son has days and nights filled with seizures.

Jerry… you are no where near the spectrum. I hereby fine you $8,000 for your insult and ignorance (and thinly veiled ‘r-word’ joke). Please deposit that money into my son’s fundraiser so that I can get him some much needed Neurofeedback, right here.

Autism moms, REAL autism moms… let’s get on our Unicorns and ride!

–but hey… at least our kids didn’t get the measles.
